Government stops Mobil from continuing to pollute Yarra. May 20
After 40 years  MOBIL Oil has been ordered to stop its action of discharging contaminated water from its refinery into the river. Mobile has been the last company still allowed to dump waste into the river however a deal being announced today by the state government signals the end to this practice. Story Mark Carrington

Drilling tests have started for Melbourne’s east-west tunnel.  May 18
Despite the lack of federal funding the Victorian Government has said that major drilling has started for the east-west tunnel connection.
The unfunded project at this time is expected to need 18kilometers of road to be built to connect the Western Ring Road with the city's Eastern Freeway.

One of Prahran’s most important pieces of street art destroyed.  May 17
Workman have drilled through a Banksy’s while working on a café. The work known as the Parachuting Rat has been mostly destroyed by pipe work now going through the wall were the rat was painted.  This is the third piece of art work of the internationally renowned artist destroyed in Melbourne in just three years.  Many of Banksy’s works are upwards of $100,000. Local real estate starting to gather strength. May 15
the Real Estate Institute of Victoria reports that last weekend Melbourne has had ian auction clearance rate of 63% the best outcome since early this year.
Three properties in the Boroondara area sold at over $4 million.
It is felt that the Reserve Bank's decision to cut interest rates with another cut expected has had a strong effect on local high end markets.

Armed robber produces a knife in Canterbury road then said sorry. May 14
Police are investigating a robbery at a pharmacy in Heathmont last night that sounds like it came out of a Hetty Wainthropp story.
Police media reports they have been told that a woman entered the pharmacy in Canterbury Road at 8.10pm, produced a knife and demanded drugs.
“Pharmacy staff weren’t too fazed by the woman and told her to go a Ringwood medical centre and see if they could help her.
The woman, a 28-year-old local, apologised to staff, left her knife at the scene and fled.
Police attended the pharmacy, took possession of the knife and interviewed staff members.
As instructed, the woman attended at the medical centre where she was arrested by police”.

Derryn Hinch did his show live from the Forest Hill complex. May 13
Derryn Hinch took to his 3AW drive show to leafy Forest Hill last Thursday for the reopening of Harris Scarfe store at Forest Hill Chase.
Hinch set a firm price of $10,000 to appear, but the money was all to go to the Austin Hospitals Liver Transplant Unit.

Drivers booked last night in South Yarra for a Sunday Mother’s Day event occurring 2 days later. May 12
Many MCG fans who had parked their cars in Alexandra Avenue last night found their cars had parking infringement notices totalling many thousands of dollars.
Many motorists said they did not know about or see the changed parking signs. Others said the signs included Sundays date and they did not appear to apply until then.

Missing Kew man located. May 11 
Missing person Joseph Atchison has been located safe and well.
Police say the 26-year-old Kew man was found with friends in Bendigo around 10.30pm last night.

Victoria Police call for inquest into Kew murders. May 11 
Although an investigation has continued for over 8 years no-one has been convicted over the killings of Terence Hodson and wife Christine Hodson who were killed in 2004 at their house  in Kew
Police are preparing a brief for the coroner, former police detective Paul Dale was initally charged with the murder of Mr Hodson but this was later dropped, however Mr Dale could be called to give evidence if an inquest goes ahead.

Stonnington schools invited to celebrate Stonnington’s history.
The City of Stonnington is inviting primary school students to enter its 2012 Historical Poster Competition.
The competition is open to students from Prep to Grade 6 who are Stonnington residents and/or attend a school within the Stonnington municipality.
There are some great prizes: First prize wins $300, second prize wins $200 and third prize wins $100. The first prize winner’s school will also receive $500.
Posters must have a fully completed entry form attached on the back and be delivered to the Service Centre at Stonnington City Centre (Malvern Town Hall) or Prahran Town Hall.
Entries close at 4pm on Tuesday 8 May 2012 and the Mayor will present prizes at a special function in June.

Stonnington Jazz Festival - May 17 to May 27,
The City of Stonnington will be presenting an all-Australian line-up of jazz over 10 days in May.
In its seventh year, the Festival (which prides itself on its all-Australian line-up), is presenting over 40 performances.
Artists include Sarah McKenzie, Barney McAll, Joe Chindamo with Zoe Black, Rai Thistlethwayte with Josh Kyle, Allan Browne, Vince Jones and James Morrison.

The City of Stonnington is seeking aspiring fashionistas for the 2012 Expression Fashion Gala and Exhibition, which has launched a number of careers in the fashion industry.
The Expression Fashion Gala and Exhibition is held annually and comprises a fashion parade on Friday 1 June 2012 at Malvern Town Hall.
City of Stonnington Mayor Cr John Chandler said people aged 14-25 that are interested in helping organise the event as committee members, and designers wishing to showcase their designs in the parade, should register their interest now.
“The aim of the Expression Fashion Gala is to promote positive messages about body image, self esteem and wellbeing. The event celebrates the many body shapes and sizes in our society and contributes to a happy and healthy community
